The triumph of hope...
Saturday 24th August
I told you about the dumb wood-pigeon would-be-parents beyond our bedroom window box: few twigs over the street and they expect their eggs to defy gravity.
Well, they are still there. I was hoping to post you a picture of both parents together, but was too lazy to get out of bed and my telephone won’t zoom that far.
There must be something in that nest.
They’ve been there all summer.
Parents, eh?
Never give in – never, never, never, never.
Never give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about.
Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.
If you're going through hell, keep going.
In nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.
And he never did. Churchill, that is. Never gave up honing a good quote into an even better one.
Bee has come home for the weekend. She is helping with the Little Viking. Playing with him. Looking after him. Stopping him dive out of an upstairs window while Serena and Christian go shopping.
Get this…
She is planning to come home for a whole week at the beginning of September, so the grown-up Vikings can snatch a few days’ holiday in the sun, when she will look after the Little Viking all week.
Wow.
See?
Never give up.
